| What Can You Do About A Possessive Relationship? |
No one wants or needs to be in a possessive relationship. These are relationships that have become extremely problematic at times. There are evidence of jealousy in them, constant snooping, having to answer for where you are, and other things that can become overbearing at times. What are some things that you can do when you feel you might be in this type of relationship?
If you do care about the person, you don't just want to dump them and move on. While at times it can be easier to do so getting out of this potentially possessive relationship, there are also things you can do to attempt to heal the relationship as well.
The first thing you can do is reassure the person that you aren't doing the things that they are fearing you are doing. Calm their fears and let them know gently and honestly that the other person has nothing to fear.
Ask the person that he or she learns to trust you. Explain how trust needs to be mutual and the constant worry is a lack of trust. In the long run, trust needs to be there for a healthy relationship.
Do what you need to do with your life. Don't let the person's jealousy rule your life or your actions.
Try not to do things that compromise the trust. If you are doing things that make the other person feel bad or suspicious, it's not going to help the problem.
When they blow up about things, try to calm them down. Don't blow up with them else the problem becomes worse.
If you want the relationship to stay together, you might have to get counseling. This can help heal many of these problems.
If things are getting worse, do yourself a favor and get out of the relationship as soon as possible. |
